Welcome to TNG Visual Effects

TNG Visual Effects provides 3D scanning services to the visual effects industry. 3D scanning is the process of digitally capturing a person, object, vehicle, building, or environment for use in film, telelvsion, video games, etc. We've also lent our services to other industries for 3D printing and for marketing merchandise and art. This service can be used for crime scene investigation, the creation of prosthetics, and to build out a virtual experience online.

          TNG 3D Scanners

With over 10 years of experience in the 3D scanning industry, we have honed our technique in 3D scanning alongside the production crews on set. Our service includes a professional photo shoot, which is necessary for both color textures and reference to ensure accuracy of the real-life counterpart.

We are highly mobile and can bring our services to any location. Our headquarters are in Los Angeles, California, with satellite locations in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and Lafayette, Louisiana. We are also expanding into New York, Toronto and Montreal. As veterans in this industry, we understand short time-frames and tight budgets.

The data we provide in our full service is retopoligized color textured 3d models in .OBJ format with displacement maps and normal maps, which are generated through the scan data for more accurate results. Other maps are available on request, and at any dimensions you may need (even 8k).

SWAT Head Scan

Let us show you how TNG Visual Effects 3D scanning specialists can create a full character virtual model, and deviate from our normal process of developing for Films and TV to create a realistic yet viable model for Video Games. We contacted our local police force, and made a special arrangement to scan a legitimate SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) member. The SWAT team is an elite tactical unit capable of performing high-risk operations and maneuvers that lay beyond the scope of the regular officers. They are known for performing hostage rescues, counter-terrorism operations, and are able to deal with heavily-armed criminals.

We were able to complete this character model, props included, in time for GDC 2011 (Game Developers Conference) at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, CA. Our process always starts off with a high-detail raw 3D scan. The scan data is processed, then used to create a tight, dense remesh to provide a clean, re-topologized mesh. From the reference pictures we take, we can then unwrap the model and apply textures. Finally, we sculpt the 3D model to bring out any extra detail.

As you can see, we gave our SWAT character a battle wound on his right cheek. The helmet and goggles were scanned separately, allowing us to remove them from the character, offering us more renditions to suit our clients' needs.

Our scans are of such a great level of detail that we can scale the resolution from a high-poly mesh to a lower-poly mesh that may be more suitable for an FPS (First Person Shooter) Video Game that requires  the lower resolution to keep the frame rate high. The Game industry has evolved, and we're more than happy to provide accurate, proportionate 3D characters. A new age of immersion is upon us, and TNG Visual Effects is on the forefront.
